Town news: 2026 Rental Season Letter

From Town of Eastham Facebook page:

We sent out the 2026 Rental Season Letter earlier this week regarding changes to our Rental Certificate Program. We want to thank everyone who has already reached out. We hear your concerns, and we understand that changes like these can be stressful.

This letter stated that all rental applications are now due by January 31, 2026, and short-term rentals will need a new annual Certificate of Inspection from the Building Department under the updated State Building Code. This will now be part of your rental certificate renewal. These updates come from new State regulations, and while we know they may create challenges, our goal is to help you through every step. Our team is here to ensure you stay in compliance while making the process as smooth as possible.

For homes served by private wells, we know winter shutdowns can make water testing difficult. If your home uses a private well and is shut down for the winter, you can still start your rental certificate application. Submit the online form and upload a placeholder document for the water test. After you pay the fee, the Health Department will review your application and place it on hold until your water test results are available, and the Building Department will be notified.

Please know that we are committed to working with each homeowner to address any questions, concerns, or issues that may arise. You’re not navigating this alone, we’re here to help.
Thank you for your understanding, patience, and partnership as we move into the 2026 season together.
