The Eastham Historical Society will hold its annual Plant, Tool and White Elephant Sale on Sunday, June 2 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. (rain date June 9) at the Swift-Daley Museum located at 2375 Rt 6 next to the post office.

We need your help!
Set up is on Saturday, June 1 at 9 a.m.  Volunteers are needed for both days.  Vendor spots are available for anyone who would like to sell their own white elephants. We are offering spaces 16 – 18 feet wide for $25.  Bring a table and chair, unload those white elephants, and go home with some plants and help sustain the Eastham Historical Society.

The committee is looking for donations of white elephants, plants (garden items too!) and tools.

 This is a major fund-raising event for the EHS and the community looks forward to it!

Happy Earth Day Eastham! The Town of Eastham is creating a Climate Action Plan and is asking for the community’s input. The multi-year plan will outline town actions for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and their climate impacts. Residents are encouraged to express their ideas and priorities by completing the Eastham Climate Action Survey. It takes less than 10 minutes and all responses are anonymous.

Out of an abundance of caution, the Eastham Health Department has posted advisories at Great Pond and Wiley Park for Cyanobacteria.  Following a complaint, a site visit was made and blue green algae was found at Great Pond in and amongst decomposing vegetation on the pond’s edge. Based on the visual inspection we do feel it is warranted to post these advisories as this is where many families and pets go to swim. Further testing will be done tomorrow by APCC and Barnstable County, that may result in an official closure.

Cyanobacteria blooms may affect people, animals, and the environment.  They have the ability to make toxins called cyanotoxins and can make people and animals sick. The best protection is to avoid swimming and boating in areas where you see discoloration, foam, scum, or mats of algae.  Children and the elderly should be discouraged from ingesting pond water. Pets also should avoid drinking and swimming in this water. If you come in contact with water containing cyanobacteria, rinse off as soon as possible with clean fresh water.

Come aboard: ‘The Love Boat’ captain’s former Cape Cod home for sale at $2.8M

The late actor Gavin MacLeod was the captain of choice for many TV watchers from the mid 1970s well into the ’80s. As Merrill Stubing, he was at the helm of “The Love Boat,” keeping things on course through a continuous storm of romantically challenged guest stars.

MacLeod, who passed away in 2021, owned a home in Eastham, where he and his wife Patti spent considerable time. “I love it here,” MacLeod told the Cape Cod Times in a 1999 article.

Now that beautiful home is sailing toward a new owner. Located in a spectacular setting with lovely marsh views, the post and beam home features four bedrooms and four full bathrooms. Priced at $2,800,000, the property also includes a separate building with living quarters and a sweet entertaining space.
